IB Pastoral System at BIS
At BIS we strongly believe that happy IB students make successful IB students. The strong support structure in place ensures that all students know that they are known and valued and our pastoral care provision was judged in our 2009 OfSTED inspection report to be “outstanding”.
We have eight Tutor groups. The pastoral programme is focused towards each year group, but have many joint activities so that Year 12s see first hand what Year 13 has in store for them and gives the Year 13s the opportunity to advise and guide fellow students.
Each Tutor Group has a designated Tutor who meets the students every day and a Support Tutor who assists and deputises for the Tutor when needed. The Tutor is the first point of contact for students and parents and oversees the overall academic, emotional, physical and social development of students. The pastoral team meets regularly to discuss student welfare and progress.
At BIS we place great value on the home school partnership and effective communication between teachers, tutors, parents and students. We encourage any concerns, big or small, to be addressed quickly so that we can work together to solve them effectively.
