At BIS we believe that a language will help equip our students with the ability to communicate in an increasingly global community whilst providing an insight into different cultural backgrounds. MFL offers a chance for students to learn a diverse range of foreign languages; French, German, Spanish, Japanese Indonesian and Mandarin.

Teaching materials are lively and meaningful and are placed under constant review. From year 3 to Year 11, pupils follow specific programmes of study. For those at IB level materials often include authentic media sources such as, articles from the internet, newspapers or magazines. Classroom activities are designed to provide students with opportunities to develop their communicative competence in all language skills. To support this, the Faculty encourages the use of the target language by both teachers and students alike during classroom activities. This is supplemented by aural activities and reading and writing practice.
